SUNY Buffalo State College and Goodwill of Western New York are teaming up to help students move out of their residence halls and campus apartments while also helping the environment and the community.
Goodwill Campus Move-Out, which will take place at Buffalo State May 11 through May 14, is the easy way for students to take home what they want or need — and donate the rest to a worthy cause.
“Our students take stewardship of the environment and helping the less fortunate very seriously,” said Timothy Gordon, Buffalo State vice president for student affairs. “This partnership with Goodwill of Western New York provides the perfect opportunity for residents to donate their gently used items rather than discarding them during the busy moving-out week. We know this effort will help multiple individuals through Goodwill’s commitment to selling clothing at an affordable price and providing jobs to people who need them.”
Each day, Goodwill representatives will be available to accept donations between noon and 4:00 p.m. in various locations on campus. They are as follows:
• Tuesday, May 11, in Lot 1-37 between Upton Hall and the Science and Mathematics Complex
• Wednesday, May 12, in the parking loop in front of the Student Apartment Complex (STAC)
• Thursday, May 13, in the Rockwell Road parking spots in front of Neumann Hall
• Friday, May 14, in the Parking loop in front of STAC
Goodwill Campus Move-Out builds on several years of success of similar programs at select colleges and universities around the country. This is the first year for Campus Move-Out to take place at Buffalo State.
“We’re so excited to be part of this partnership,” Gordon said. “I hope students take advantage of this opportunity and that we can continue the event in subsequent years.”
The convenience of Campus Move-out is key, both for students and the colleges and universities where they reside, which is one reason it is such a popular program, noted Erin Casillo, Goodwill’s director of operations and logistics. “Students can do good and feel good, knowing that they are preventing reusable items from ending up in landfills while having a social impact in our community,” Casillo said. “At Goodwill, we help people prepare for, find, and keep jobs. And it all starts with donations.”
